Detection of Lithium in a Main Sequence Bulge Star Using Keck I as a 15m Diameter Telescope

چکیده
The bulge contains the most chemically evolved old stellar population in the Milky Way. Thanks to microlensing, it is now possible to obtain high resolution echelle spectra of bulge stars near the main sequence turn-off, and study the abundance of elements that are affected by stellar evolution, such as lithium. We have observed with the HIRES spectrograph on the Keck I 10m telescope the source star of the MACHO microlensing event 97BLG45 while it was magnified by ∼ 1 magnitude. Here we report the detection of the Li I line at λ6707.8 Å in the echelle spectrum of this star, and measure the bulge lithium abundance for the first time: A(Li) = 2.25± 0.25. Double-Star Detection Using Convolutional Neural Network in Atmospheric Turbulence
In this paper, we investigate the usage of machine learning in the detection and recognition of double stars. To do this, numerous images including one star and double stars are simulated. Then, 100 terms of Zernike expansion with random coefficients are considered as aberrations to impose on the aforementioned images. Also, a telescope with a specific aperture is simulated. In this work, two k...
متن کاملKeck Spectra of Pleiades Brown Dwarf Candidates and a Precise Determination of the Lithium Depletion Edge in the Pleiades
We have obtained intermediate resolution spectra of eleven candidate brown dwarf members of the Pleiades open cluster using the Keck II telescope and LRIS spectrograph. Our primary goal was to determine the location of the “lithium depletion edge” in the Pleiades and hence to derive a precise age for the cluster. All but one of our 11 program objects have radial velocities appropriate for Pleia...
متن کاملExploring the Structure of Distant Galaxies with Adaptive Optics on the Keck-ii Telescope
We report on the first observation of cosmologically distant field galaxies with an high order Adaptive Optics (AO) system on an 8-10 meter class telescope. Two galaxies were observed at 1.6 μm at an angular resolution as high as 50 milliarcsec using the AO system on the Keck-II telescope. Radial profiles of both objects are consistent with those of local spiral galaxies and are decomposed into...
متن کاملModeling low order aberrations in laser guide star adaptive optics systems.
When using a laser guide star (LGS) adaptive optics (AO) system, quasi-static aberrations are observed between the measured wavefronts from the LGS wavefront sensor (WFS) and the natural guide star (NGS) WFS. These LGS aberrations, which can be as much as 1200 nm RMS on the Keck II LGS AO system, arise due to the finite height and structure of the sodium layer. The LGS aberrations vary signific...

We report the detection of a low-mass companion orbiting the solar-type star HD 178911B, the distant component of the stellar triple system HD 178911. The variability of HD 178911B was first detected using radial-velocity measurements obtained with the HIRES spectrograph mounted on the 10–m Keck 1 telescope at the W.M. Keck Observatory (Hawaii, USA). We then started an intense radial-velocity f...
